Never mind Les Huit Femmes, here are The Nive Wives! This new band was formed by Dutch music veteran Woody Veneman together with Joni Houtman and Lola Heijdt. With this power trio and the release of their self-titled album, Veneman celebrates twenty years of activity as an artist. The versatile album covers a wide musical range from brit pop to blues, from folk rock to garage rock, from the Mississippi Delta to the shores of North West Europe, and from the beginnings of rock music to present days. On the album’s fourth track L.A., Veneman, Heijdt and Houtman present a nasty yet catchy tribute to the City of Light, a place which offers an inexhaustible source for inspiration and innovation. This powerful rock song is one of the many highlights of The Nine Wives‘ amazing album. It is furthermore a beautiful breakup hymn.
