Three years ago, Turin’s Dune Aurora published their debut, the four-track EP Lonely Town. This November, the release of their first full-length album Ice Age Desert arrive with perfect timing. There is a new wave of heavy rock rolling over our planet, and it is predominantly lead by female protagonists. Just think of the latest releases by bands such as Alunah, Spirit Mother, Electric Citizen, or MaidaVale. Occult and heavy psychedelic rock are on the rise, and mixed-gender or all-female bands are taking the lead. And here is probably one of the greatest releases from this movement in 2025: the heavily shaking and deeply mesmerising longplayer Ice Age Desert by Dune Aurora.
Spiraling Between The Poles
Ice Age Desert follows a common theme which creates a shiny golden thread leading through the album. Between massive heavy rock and mile high psychedelia, groovy alternative rock and giant walls of fuzz, Dune Aurora present a 45-minute coherent journey. Smooth transitions connect the nine tracks with each and hence create a cyclic sonic image.
And like the musical themes, the album’s theme also grooves back and forth between its main themes: introspection and strength. This multi-layered arc of suspense, the confident performance, and the tight mix and master make Ice Age Desert a powerful, thrilling, and exciting album.
