The Second Incarnation
Since they originally formed in 2017, Costa Rican death metal band Mörtual has successfully dug towards the circles of hell. Their first EP Evil Incarnation was released in 2023, and it clearly showed that the band was all about keeping old school death metal alive on the one hand, and re-enforcing the immortal genre with brutal twists on the other. As a trio, Mörtual have now released their first longplayer Altar of Brutality on which they reach even further into the everlasting flames of infernal emptiness.
Total Desecration
Altar of Brutality is the sonic version of a Hieronymus Bosch painting. Over the course of 35 minutes, you will encounter violence, impurity, blasphemy, brutality, and pure desecration. Chalo (drums), Justin Sánchez (guitars and vocals), and Juan Salas (guitars and vocals) are the spirits deny. By the power of brachial riffing, bloodthirsty rhythms and satanically deep growls, they spit venom, lava, and hellfire.

Expect No Mercy
Mörtual worship horror fiction and death metal in their rawest forms. Despite praising the old school, Mörtual do not sound like a rehash or a tribute. Instead, Altar of Brutality develops the genres and pushes their boundaries. Old school death metal is alive, and so is classy horror, and this album is living proof. No prisoners taken.
We will dance again
