Shaded Houses is an ambient project that was born at the beginning of 2025 in the vibrant capital of Sicily. One and a half years later, the Palermitan project has presented its first longplayer, the cinematic and drumless album Family Trees. This five-track release deals with greif, sorrow, bereavement and loss. You might draw parallels to Elisabeth Kübler-Ross‘ Five Stages Of Grief, while actually Shaded Houses‘ Family Trees goes far beyond that concept. Ambient soundscapes which perform five consecutive traits of thoughts and feelings accompany a period of darkness and paralysis. Yet, Family Trees follows an eloquent and clear arc of suspence which gradually leads upwards. And thus, in the end, the heavy and shoegazy tunes of the album’s middle part vanish. Therfore, new hope and new strength let the album climax in its final track Four (Ascension). Shaded Houses‘ debut album is an emotional and meditative release that has the potential to re-establish faith and confidence.
