Psychedelic Transformation
Liminality is the sixth longplayer by Vaud-based quintet Fomies. The five fake homies have prepared a heavy psychedelic trip for thei listeners. For fifty-one minutes, all senses including the third eye shall be activated and stimulated. As the title may already imply, Liminality is about transformation, change, renewal, and a happily hopeful approach towards the future. Does this soundlike something we all need in these times? It does indeed! Thus, fasten your seatbelts, put on your sunglasses, and get ready for a hypnotizing and colouful ride.
Arc of Suspense
Liminality commences with heavy and sedating sounds before the album reaches its first climax, the powerful Heavy Psych Suite Colossus I-III. This massive thirteen-minute journey really comes up to its name, and right after, Fomies grant their audience a six-and-a-half minute break to catch new breath (Pause Cigarette), just to intensify the level of Fuzz and Heavy Psychedelia right after. This exciting roller coaster rides on between relaxing Krautrock one the lower end and monolithic Fuzz and Garage on the higher one. Liminality is a musical invitation to let go, to enjoy the mental cinema, and to dive through the fantastic spheres of rebirth and renewal.
Towards New Frontiers
Scratching the realms of Doom Metal with its final track Upheaval, Liminality is an album that keeps what it promises. Fomies describe the complex and fantastic process of a cyclical transformation. And like a phoenix that rises from the ashes, the band masterfully succeeds in doing so. You may find parallels to Motorpsycho’s The All Is Gone, Odd Conjectures by Hypnotic Floor, or King Gizzard & The Lizard Wizard’s Flying Microtonal Banana. Nevertheless, Liminality is without doubt an autonomous master piece, a cohesive, flawless, artistically versatile journey across the parabola’s vertex.
