Anchoring

Less than a year ago, Fuzziliers who are originally from Saint Petersburg and who have relocated to Istanbul have released their first longplayer Sail The Seven Seas. You can find a short review of the album here. After their impressive album debut which was coined by restlessness, reorientation, and the search for comfort, the sophomore longplayer Most Fun defines the beginning of a new chapter in the band history of Fuzziliers. Mostly abandoning the musical spheres of brit pop and shoegaze, they have moved towards solid ground, and in quartet formation they now present a borderless indie rock sound.

Arrival and New Plans

It seems like the band’s new environment has left significant traces in their songwriting. While the psychedelic component marks the main constant of Fuzziliers‚ sound, a strong shift can be made out. Still rooted in typical British sounds, this shift has brought them from pop to rock, from gentle and effect-aden sounds to solid and heavy motifs. You may encounter traces of The Kinks or The Clash between the psychedelic and progressive episodes of Most Fun.

But there is something else that is new, and here is where the international metropolis of Istanbul becomes noticeable. Between the British rock and pop sounds, Fuzziliers have added a lot of influence from Arabic, Turkish, and North African music. Thus, Most Fun features instruments such as krabeb, baglama, or frame drums between typical instruments of European prog, pop or indie rock.

Advancing towards New Shores

Most Fun by Fuzziliers does not only mark a new chapter in the band’s development, it is furthermore their strongest, most solid and most confident release so far. But even more important, it shows what Fuzziliers might be up to. The recent progress made from the 2023 EP Would You Believe over 2024 album Sail The Sevens to recent longplayer Most Fun stands for progression, change, and a constant joy in expanding their own borders. With Most Fun, it seems like Fuzziliers have cast anchor, but anchors can be hoisted. Thus, we shall be very excited about what Fuzziliers will come up with next time and in which direction their catchy and eloquent music will evolve.
