Forward from Grief

Life has not been easy on the members of Australian Post, Sludge and Blackened Doom Metal quartet Ghostsmoker since they released their first EP Grief in 2022. The sudden and unexpected death of vocalist and lyricist Nathan Brunning’s brother has significantly coined lyrical and thematic appearance of Inertia Cult. Further impact of trauma, grief and despair came when drummer Brayden Becher’s father passed away.

During these hard times, the four musicians‘ solidarity and companionship grew tighter and stronger than ever before.
And by the force of this dedication and confidence, they finished an album as dark as painful grief itself, yet as hot as the wings of a phoenix that rises from the ashes.

A Beacon of Doom from Down Under

Ghostsmoker’s Inertia Cult is a beast of a debut album. The quartet stirs up Doom Metal, Sludge and Post Metal in a mercilessly hot cauldron and spices it up with Black Metal and nightmares. Dichotomies scratch each other and thereby create massive loads of dark energy which has the potential either to be extremely creative or destructive. The heat of infernal flames meets the relentless cold of arctic storms, and stolid movement of inertia clashes with thunderbolts and lightning. Ghostsmoker are a band that reaches for the stars, and they spread their cult of Post, Doom, Sludge and Black Metal globally.
