Mein Neues Nicki are Thomas, Holle, and Jonas from Saxon metropolis Leipzig (Saxon: Leibzsch; Sorbian: Lipsk). The band’s name translates to My New T-Shirt from the dialects of the former German Democratic Republic (citizens of West German have said t-shirt before, but angliscism were not too popular in the GDR). In late 2019 the band was formed, and about one-and-a-half years later, their first EP Schnellbuffet Süd was published. Since then, Mein Neues Nicki have worked on their debut album which is now waiting for your sound speakers and cassette decks. It is a 37-minute snapshot in time, a status report from a life between hope and desolation, between nostalgia and awakening. And thus, the title Am Ende Alles Gut (All Good In The End) is an ideal fit.
Full Speed Ahead! But Where To?
Am Ende Alles Gut tells of the embittered battle between those who want to make this planet a happy and liveable place for everyone, and those who are afraid of change. The truth is way more complicated, and Mein Neues Nicki know that. But instead of giving detailed insights of the trench warfare that we are confronted with wherever we look, they describe the mood and the atmosphere around. The musical realisation is undertaken by a clash of uplifting and motivating Punk or Garage Rock sounds on the one hand, and a massive wall of cold and gloomy Post Punk and Wave. And somewhere between the lines, you can find some traces of Austro Pop or related sounds.
All Good In The End?
In these troubled times, we frequently wonder if everything will turn out well. Mein Neues Nicki present an album that spreads hope without promising pie in the sky. Am Ende Alles Gut is a sober report from a dark reality, a collection of tales about hope, desolation, activism, and escapism. Mein Neues Nicki provide us with honesty, melancholy, melody, and motivation.
