The Final Chapter
For the last time, we dive into the year 2014. Afterwards, there will be some more releases from 2004 in this series, but MangoWave will go on a little break in (Northern Hemisphere) autumn and winter soon. Nevertheless, the last edition of reviews of releases from 2014 is a very special one since it deals with an oustanding album by a deeply fascinating band. Conjuros De Poder (Spanish: Spells of Power) was the final album by Peruvian Witch Doom band Reino Ermitaño (Hermit Kingdom). Like the previous four longplayers, the album was released via Peru’s Ogro Records. Since Reino Ermitaño’s Brujería Doom has enchanted people all over the globe, re-issues have been and will be published.
Ancient Wisdom and Everlasting Energy
The sound Conjuros De Poder draws a powerful bridge which crosses all time. Reino Ermitaño connect the time before time with what will be after nothing is no more. Within this arch from below zero to above one, the band has created a deeply satisfying psychedelically eschatologic soundscape. The listeners can easily dive into this fantastic wonderland full of excitement and fascination. Where Reino Ermitaño take their audience everything and nothing coexists peacefully. Welcome to the void!
With the help of flutes, charango, and bombo andino, the heavy and occult Witch Doom sound becomes a gigantic listening pleasure for all ears and senses. Conjuros De Poder is a beast of a Doom Metal album without flaws.
