Two suitcases and a Dream
Rose White travelled light when she left her home town Szczecin in the Voivodeship West Pomerania and left for London. She only had the bare essentials, some money and a big dream with her: Rose White came to London to make something of her musical talent. Only a year later, her debut single ‚Ride‘ helped her gain attention offside the concert stages. One of the next crucial stepping stones in the career of Rose White will be the Polish expat’s debut EP „One Fourth Mark“ which will be released on February 24, 2023. This release will feature songs on which Rose White tells about love, mental health, and life as an adult in these times. „One Fourth Mark“ was recorded by Rose White in her back garden studio together with Tommy Sigalov, and one of the tracks on the album is ‚Filthy Dream‘.
Cupid versus Mammon
‚Filthy Dream‘ is a special song from the repertoire of Rose White for (at least) two reasons: firstly, there is the song’s history, and secondly, there is the sound. Beginning with how ‚Filthy Dream‘ was developed, it was originally meant to be a song about the life of the super rich – the filthy rich if you want. Putting herself in the position of a person living the dream of not needing to think about money, Rose White wrote this tale. It is the story of someone who realises that the fairytale is gradually turning into a nightmare – a life behind golden bars. As the song developed, the artist felt another vibration in it. It is thus furthermore the song about a toxic relationship, a sonic tale about a once beautiful love story that has been ruined by money.
Music-wise, Rose White has mainly combined Soul and Funk with Pop so far. In ‚Filthy Dream‘, the artist lets her stunning voice and beautiful accent fly above a more jazzy soundscape. Still earthed in Soul, and not too far away from Funk, Rose White invites her audience to a gentle sonic space that will not only please fans of Amy Winehouse or early works of Feist.
