The Uncomplicted Third Album

People make up rules and other people follow them. The first album has to introduce an artist, the sophomore longplayer has to mark their development, and the third is the most complicated one because it has to help them break through with their unique sound? OK. You can also say that bands need at least three members, and then you encounter Dortmund’s Pighounds. Their debut album Hilleboom was a wrecking ball of Garage and Alternative Rock. Parallely, the duo of two straight men succesfully pissed off homophobes. With their second longplayer Phat Pig Phace, Alessandro de Luca and Peter Bering joyfully hopped over the rusty fences of genre borders. And if The Pighounds‚ third album Tutti Frutti was a complicated one for them, they really are masters in dissembling that complexity. This is the successful connection that reaches from Dortmund to Seattle, Sweden and Switzerland, and finally to a planet where pigs rule.

Lean Production Of Massive Bangers

If you have known The Pighounds before, you will not be too surprised that Tutti Frutti is another super-efficient album, meaning The Pighounds have once again found the golden ratio between minimalist ideas on the one hand, and maximum noise and fun on the other. What you can hear here, is an alloy of the lightfootedness of The Peacocks, the Grunge gloom of Alice In Chains, and the heavyweight sound of Dozer. Yes, The Pighounds have indeed developed their sound without losing touch to their origins.

A Great Album Needs A Great Finale…

… and Tutti Frutti is not just a great album, it is a stunning longplayer with a masterful arc of suspense. The Pighounds have not used the parabolic figure of the classic drama with a central climax. Instead, Tutti Frutti is a thrilling rollercoaster ride of rising tension that ends with its greatest song Day Of The Acid. What a fantastic way to organise eleven great tracks!
