The Answer

Apprently, this four-piece band from North West Germany has named themselves after a song from Napalm Death‘s album Utilitarian. Digging through the discography of the British grindcore band and looking for parallels to the music recorded by The Wolf I Feed might actually be a lot of fun. But maybe some other time. What we have on hand here, is a release that contains threefold beauty. First of all, the album really comes up to its name as The 42 Seconds Massacre contains eight tracks, each of them exactly 42 seconds long. Douglas Adams would approve.

404: Mercy Not Found

Secondly, there is the cover artwork which combines the aesthetics of second wave black metal and crustcore. And the latter already leads to the third aspect which makes this very short release so great. The 42 Seconds Massacre is a collection of raw, merciless, crusty, and brutal tales. While the three minutes are predominantly fast and dark in sound, in the final parts especially, The Wolf I Feed add more atmosphere and variety to The 42 Seconds Massacre. Despite its short length, the album has a great arc of suspense. And thus, what The Wolf I Feed have presented here is highly entertaining and mercilessly gorgeous.

We will dance again
