Berlin 2.0 – Scherbenhügel
Album | 02/06/2023 | Flight 13 Records
Post Punk / Wave Punk
Stuttgart, Germany
When Berlin 2.0, the Swabian band lead by vocalist Elena Wolf were formed in 2021, their musical mission became obvious very quickly. The quintet from Stuttgart produces powerful and dynamic but yet deep dark sounds that follow the veins of legendary acts like EA80 or Chaos Z. And here they are with their first longplayer Scherbenhügel (Heap of Shards), a ten-track celebration of a broken world, of anxiety and of laughing in the face of the end to come.

Chip & The Charge Ups – What happened to the Boy next Door?
EP | 02/06/2023 | Before and After
Hard Rock / Pop Punk
Pittsburgh, PA, USA
Pittburgh’s trio Chip & The Charge Ups are an award-winning band who have been praised for their Pop Punk sound recently. With their new release What happened to the Boy next Door?, they want to address a broader audience and thus forged more edgy and rough tunes. The result can be called an alloy of 1990s Pop Punk à la Wheatus or Blink 182 with Bon Jovi-esque Hard Rock will very likely get people to go crazy on the dancefloors. Altogether, the melodic mix is indeed entertaining but not very innovative.

MetzgerButcher – Zwei vor Zwölf
Album | 02/06/2023 | Metzger Platten
Electro Punk / Post Punk
Bonn, Germany
Brothers Larry and Hans from the former West German capital Bonn have previously released two EPs, and now their first longplayer Zwei vor Zwölf (Two to Twelve – a reference to the idiom „Fünf vor Zwölf“ which means „The Eleventh Hour“) is here. Some of the songs featured on Zwei vor Zwölf will sound familiar as they were part of the EPs, but apparenty, MetzgerButcher have re-recorded and re-mastered them. On ten tracks that reach from Post Punk melancholia over New Wave agitation to Punk Rock attitude, the two brothers confront new nationalism, inequality, greed, and other phenomena of our capitalist society.

The Mountain King – april 30th, Mainz, m8 liveclub
Live Album | 02/06/2023 | Independent
Doom Metal / Drone Doom
Mainz, Germany
Something is brewing, and it is brewing inside of a vault. The Mountain King, formerly known as Mainz‘ one-person Noise-Drone-Doom-Avantgarde army is constantly growing. After band founder Eric was joined guitar player Frank recently, this live recording also features producer and turntable hero Robert. Soon, The Mountain King will find their next form and will then hopefully raid the stages frequently. As a little pretaste, you can enjoy this live recording from the band’s home town.
