In 1930, German artist Paul Hindemuth published his seven-track composition Des Kleinen Elektromusikers Lieblinge. Hindemuth who had already been called a producer of Entartete Kunst by the nazis hereby undertook a deep dive into the spheres of (early) electronic and mechanic music. Almost a full century later, this composition receives a worthy tribute by Stefan Karl Schmid (tenor sax), Leonhard Huhn (alto sax), Stefan Schönegg (bass), and Fabian Arends (drums). Schmid’s Huhn re-discover, re-invent, and re-arrange the pioneering work of Paul Hindemuth. After the four-fold interpretation of Hindemuth‘s composition and an intermission, another five tracks reflect on original, interpretation, and their impacts. Even if you have not heard of Paul Hindemuth before, this album by Schmid’s Huhn is a fantastic release for lovers of cool jazz and intelligent improvisations.
