The Magnificient Number Seven
More than half a century ago, Don Siegel’s film Coogan’s Bluff starring Clint Eastwood was published. The screenplay on corruption in the American West is eponymous for the band whose seventh album Balada has just been released via Noisolution. Originally formed in Hanseatic City of Rostock, Coogans Bluff have relocated to Berlin, and much more has changed in the two decades of their existence. What once began as a tale of a Stoner Rock band has turned into the successful story of a group that joyfully pushes the boundares of genres and styles. Purists may hate them for that. And now for the seventh great dance of Coogans Bluff: this is Balada!
Vamos Dançar
In Brazilian Portuguese, Balada means Song or Dance. And without doubt, the title fits the sounds on Coogans Bluff’s seventh longplayer very well. Singing and dancing describes the way that the quintet jumps from one pigeon-hole to another. Jazz, Blues, Hard Rock, Psychedelia, Prog? The answer is always „yes, but also …“and before the listeners know the music has already shifted to the next theme. While hopping between styles and themes may be complex, Coogans Bluff make it sound so easy. Via smooth arcs of suspense, relaxed Jazz motifs pile up until they reveal that they have transformed into a Stoner Rock giant before they slide back into elegant Blues.
Rediscovering Serenity
Coogans Bluff know how to shake a leg and how to entertain the masses. But most importlantly, the five-piece will never stress anyone out. This Rock’n’Roll band is here to offer a timeout from bad times and provide their listeners with holidays for mind and ears instead. Warm sounds and positive vibrations caress the audience, and spread positivity.
