The Second Blow
Last year in February, Franconian hardcore punks G.L.O.W. burst into the world with their first demo. Find a short review here. Since then, the quartet did not waste any time, and instead they performed their fresh retro sound on stage and recorded some songs. Together with G.T., they went to Kolossale Tonspuraufnahmen in Bamberg and came out with this ten-track EP. Fixed got mastered at Amherst’s Dead Air Studios by Will Killingsworth, wrapped up in a retrofuturist artwork by White Sheep, and was published on 12” vinyl via My Ruin and Kink Records.
Direct Action
G.L.O.W. do not beat about the bush. Instead, the four musicians jump directly into action. Only two of the ten tracks are longer than two minutes, and thus the ten-track album contains a total of twelve minutes. And these twelve minutes are crammed with power, energy, and force. Similar to last year’s demo, Fixed is mostly located among the musical realms of 80s hardcore punk and some millenium-era East Coast hardcore.
But Fixed is way more than just a seamless continuation of G.L.O.W.‘s demo recording from 2025. The second track P. is a great example for the gloomy atmosphere that was added to the sound. It is a raw and cold sonic experience which mimicks the times the EP was recorded in. Traces of post punk or coldwave spice up the relentless performance. Yet, anthemic hardcore punk as in the songs Eraser or Tabula Rasa combine nostalgia with a modern twist. Old school does not necessarily mean rusty, and that is exactly why this contemporary work brings so much joy.
