Five Days, Seven Sins

Puerto Rican prog metal quintet Moths has hereby returned with a special longplayer. After the release of their selftitled debut (2018), a split with The Stone Eye (2020), and sophomore album Space Force (2022), the band from San Juan dedicated their third full length release to a very popular theme in the universe of metal and its infinite subgenres. Septem is a seven-track album, self-released on CD and digital platforms, with each track dealing with one of the seven deadly sins. And even though, this album’s theme may not scream innovation, Moths have created a veratile and thrilling musical ride through many layers of progressive, dark, and heavy sounds. Within five days, Moths have recorded Septem at Buenos Aires’ Romaphonic Studios.

Between Infernal Flames and Eternal Winter

Septem is an album that really pushes the border of any label or genre that you can try to categorise it with. Moths provide breathtaking rides from psychedelic doom to (melodic) black and death metal, from atmospheric synth-laden passages into brutal breakdowns, and from infernal heat to sonic permafrost. And what makes Septem so thrilling and beautiful is a masterful combination of two things: the album is indeed progressive and sophisticated so there are plenty of unexpected twists and turns, and yet Moths provide us with a coherent musical narrative.

Septem is entertaining, versatile, highly progressive, and still heavy. Moth‘s third album is an eclectic journey through the world of sins, and a powerful display of the broadness of metal.
