Into a new Future

The German language knows two forms of future tense; Futur I (e.g. Wir werden Musik hören = We will listen to music), and Futur II (e.g. Wir werden Musik gehört haben = We will have listened to music). German satire magazine Der Postillon once introduced a third future tense called Futur III which shall refer to actions in the future that will likely be canceled or postponed. This tense therefore adds the element of unlikelihood to future events; a very German thing, and a symptom of our cold post-modern reality.

Focusing on more beautiful matters, Futur III is also the title of Orange Utan‘s third longplayer. And even though, this album also deals with the gloomy times of late capitalism we live in, it is a true highlight of the year 2026. Seven-and-a-half years after the release of their sophomore longplayer katastrophil, Orange Utan are back with an energetic and progressive album that succesfully defies desolation and genre borders simultaneously.

Expect the Unexpected

Those who have known Orange Utan before are aware that the German band blends, extends, deconstructs and reattaches genres and styles to create their very own sound. With the release of Futur III, Orange Utan have nevertheless re-invented themselves all over again without abandoning their previous path. You may use terms such as post hardcore, post rock, post punk, progressive rock, or even stoner rock to define certain passages or themes. Yet, surprise is the omnipresent feature which coins the listening experience here. For example, the first vocals on opening track Kanndiktat may sound unusual to Orange Utan fans since they were performed by guest vocalist Martin Endt. And Futur III keeps up with this element of surprise as they constantly lead the listeners through a thrilling ride over troubled waters, alongside cold rocks and ruins, and towards an uncertain destination.

Art for almost all Senses

Futur III is a wild ride. Together with their guest musicians, Orange Utan create paths and trails on which the listeners dash forward. And whenever one may think they have figured out the next step, Orange Utan implement the next unexpexted turn or twist. You can thus experience plenty of impressions or emotions here, but definitely not boredom. Futur III is a sonic storm tide which yet contains melodic and atmospheric views. And amidst these thrilling musical images, Orange Utan tell of our cold and dark times, but also spend courage and hope. Futur III is both, a sober view of the status quo, and an empowering message with an outlook towards a brighter future.

The album will first be released on March 27, 2026 via bandcamp and on CD. On streaming platforms like TIDAL or Deezer, it will be available from September 04, 2026 on.
