Stranded All Over Again

Cologne’s rawky quartet Stranded may just have maximised minimalism, or even succesfully beaten the 80/20 rule. Following their two EPs We Are (2022) and Again (2023), here comes Stranded‘s first longplayer Still. So, from being stranded, and stranded again, Rapha, Franky, Sev, and Maarten are still… well, you get it. And although one may argue that eighteen minutes are very short for a longplayer, this ten-track release is so crammed with fun, movement, and easter eggs, it shall indeed be called a legit album.

Shiny, Tough, and Dirty

Still is a collection of anthems, a real all-killer-no-filler banger. Instead of adding unnecessary ornaments or bypasses, Stranded jump right into action and kick ass. Over and over again. Tough punk and garage rock sounds are being spiced up with some hardcore and some heavy psychedelia. Add some polish here, spray some dirt there, and stir it up with a hot sauce made from melancholia, anger, and joy. Finally, it is the minimalist approach which bends all these elements, and turns them into a tasty explosion of ecstasy.

Passionate Hymns

Even when listening to the album for the first time, you will want to sing along with Stranded. Just take the anthemic choruses of Helpline as an ideal example. But Still pleases more senses than just ears and legs (the latter are the sensory organ for the sense of kicking butts). The vinyl version comes with a beautiful artwork and a passionately designed inlay for your watching pleasure. And finally, the record will keep your hands busy as you will want to flip it over and over again to listen to the album multiple times. Final note: don’t add mustard.
