Uprising Of The Grieving
D.C.’s Sutras are a duo that has a clear vision of a better world. Empathy, community, companionship, solidarity, equality are some of the values which Frederick Ashworth and Tristan Welch transport by their rough and heavy sounds. These are the voices and wishes of those who have lived through hard times but instead of becoming embittered want to help make the world a better place. In times like these, coined by division, isolation, and ignorance, this is what we all need.
Dark Cycles and Rough Edges
The six-track release The Crisis Of Existence deals with the grief and the pain that can be found everywhere in our post-modern world, in the post-industrial especially. Sutras tell of heartbreak, addicition, or mental health issues without mincing their words or euphemising anything. These are the voices of those who have made their way through the ashes, and who now want everyone to get a chance to shoot for the stars equally.
The musical realisation of The Crisis Of Existence matches the content very well as the mix of Post Hardcore, Sludge, Shoegaze, and some Hardcore Punk creates gloomy soundscapes from where the accusatory and lamenting screams are being born. But Sutras do not create a musical environment that spreads desolation or stagnation. Instead, The Crisis Of Existence sounds like a powerful call to action, and a reminder that a better future is possible.
