Ten years after the release of their selftitled debut album, the power trio from Lake Constanze present their seventh longplayer Cursed. Behind an artwork created by bass player Lotti Peach and inspired by 17th century artist and scientist Maria Sibylla Merian thirteen tracks and a whole lot of contrasts wait to be discovered. Seventh album containing thirteen tracks and a rather innocent cover artwork together with the word Cursed? Is this over-interpreted, or do Bikini Beach play with dichotomies and oppositions more than ever before?
Of Light And Dark In The Cursed Century
Cursed is coined by strong contrasts with heavy and dark Fuzz Rock or Proto Metal on the one hand, and upbeat Garage and Psychedelia on the other. And Bikini Beach would not be Bikini Beach if you could easily categorise them like this. Within less than half an hour, the trio elegantly jumps over genre barriers and tears drawers and borders apart. Amid this dynamic musical performance, there is an embittered battle being fought. It is the everlasting struggle light against darkness, hope versus desolation, life against death. Bikini Beach have dealt with such topics on previous releases, too, but here we are in Cursed Century where everything is a bit darker, gloomier, scarier.
Cursed is a monster of a fuzz-loaded album that reaches from dazzling psychedelia to the dawn of doom. Bikini Beach hereby present a legit all-killer-no-filler longplayer written by zeitgeist, anger, anxiety, and hope.
