Heavy Dream Prog / Psychedelic Post Rock

Hover and Accelerate
Lovers of psychedelic, progressive, and extravagant music can always rely on Krefeld’s high-class independent label Tonzonen Records, and the album on hand is no exception to that rule. Der Neue Planet’s previous longplayer Area Fifty-Fun (22/04/2022) has already been published via Tonzonen, and so is their third album Schwerkraft für Anfänger (German: Gravity for Beginners). On five tracks and two lunar intermissions, Der Neue Planet present a various odyssey around the red planet. Variation in speed, metre, heaviness and intensity make the listeners hover and speed across a gorgeous starlit sky.
Stars, Moons, and interplanetary Humour
The instrumental pieces lead the audience around Mars, towards the the star Polaris, and deep into the spheres of (German) dad jokes. Titles like Liram Larum Lapidarum or Galaktisch. Praktisch. Gut. refer to an old German folk tale (Lirum, larum Löffelstiel, listed by Achim von Arnim and Clemens Brentano in their compilation Des Knaben Wunderhorn in1808), and the commercial slogan Quadratisch. Praktisch. Gut. for Ritter Sport chocolate bars.
The musical range reaches from Heavy Prog to Post Rock, from Jazz to Doom Metal, and from Psychedelia to Disco. Inner coherence between the themes and motifs does not impose itself into the listeners‘ attention. Instead, the tracks are very autonomous while the cohesion manifests itself when the awareness for the greater picture kicks in. Schwerkraft für Anfänger is therefore an exciting journey for space and time travelers, a lucid dream for the passionate.
