Indie Rock / Alternative Rock
Minsk, Belarus

Minsk’s Filipovich were recently featured on Flashlight #050 with their honest take on love Вино из коробки, and here they are again with a powerful indie and alternative rock track. The new single Даже (Russian: Even) is a dark and atmospheric rock song. Despite its gloomy tone, Даже is a heavy load of energety and empowerment. Filipovich‘s new single deals with loss and the gap that is left after someone or something has passed away. It is a deeply emotional track and yet it contains encouraging elements for a new beginning and new chances. The energy of Даже is built on the tension between an empty spot that can only be filled with memories, and the desire to create new stories, new life, new hope beyond those memories.

Death Metal / Extreme Metal
Kathmandu, Nepal

The Federal Republic of Nepal is a small country that does not receive much attention in global music and culture coverage. Among the many reasons to change that here is Animality, an extreme metal band from the South Asian country’s capital Kathmandu. The band was formed in 2017, released an EP in 2018, and has recently published their first longplayer Third World Brutality. Between death and thrash metal, grindcore and sheer brachiality, Animality spice up their heavy musical cocktail with ingredients from Nepali culture. This massive album is a masterful display of existence, resilience, and eloquent brutality.
