Cease the Day
In early March, Windhoek-based musician Alexander Kiremire had his first appearance on MangoWave when his single Runnin was reviewed. Click here to read the text which also includes a (very) short biography of the artist who produces rap music under the alias Proklaim. The single on hand is called somebody and it is a result of Proklaim’s first recording session of the current year. The four-minute track was mixed by Lu Diaz and mastered by Chris Athens, and it is another vivid example of Proklaim’s potent Hip Hop.
This is your Way
A laidback and gentle beat builds the foundation for Proklaim’s Somebody. The rapper directly jumps into the first chorus and thereby immediately catches the listeners by their ears, souls and hearts because that hook is infectious. Movement and motivation splutter from these empowering lines. In the verses, Proklaim spits, shuffles and plants syllables on the rhythm with high velocity and great skill. As fast as he utters his motivating speech, the content gets conveyed clearly. And if you just focus on the pattern of the shuffles and the beat, you will find that Proklaim lets his words dance across the rhythm in a lightfooted and yet rooted way. Together with the message and the eloquent way it is uttered, this rap song is a sheer banger.
