Eliminating Prejudices
Even though it may not their primary mission, Roxx Revolt & the Velvets can help us to eliminate some prejudices. Let us begin with the quartet’s origin. The State of Florida is often depicted as the United States‘ proto-fascist appendix occupied by trans- and homophobic pro-lifers and retired police thugs. Well, here are Roxx Revolt & the Velvets from Naples, a young quartet driven by a rebellious and progressive spirit. Secondly, the band’s debut album Turn your Head this Way is a forty-minute Glam and Hard Rock release. But do not be afraid of them being the umpteenth AC/DC-meets-Bon Jovi tribute band bobbing up and down between Wayne’s World lethargy and Cock Rock stagnation. Instead, Roxx Revolt & the Velvets present a fresh, unspoiled and activating sound. And hell yes, here comes a hollow phrase: Rock’n’Roll is alive!
Kicking Butts in the 2020s.
On the surface, Turn your Head this Way is a classic Hard Rock album. Roxx Revolt & the Velvets distribute intense kicks, heavy riffs and catchy tunes. The twelve-track album is a perfect fit for gym and workout, for riding fast, for getting rid of negativity, and for getting stuff done. But the recipe that Roxx Revolt & the Velvets use for their sound is different to the standard same-old Glam Rock sound. The quartet easily overcomes the gridlocked structures and breaks free without neglecting the Rock’n’Roll sound. And that is exactly what makes Turn your Head this Way a perfect example of innovative rock music from the 20s.
