Turning towards the Inside
On her fifth solo album, Björk Guðmundsdóttir wanted to establish a new Björk sound. Thus, she turned her back on the electronica which defined previous longplayer Vespertine. The new approach was predominantly coined by avant-gardist and experimental accapella sounds. With huge choirs in the background and a massive team of engineers and some instrumentalists in the back, Björk translated this plan into action. The result is a highly artistic and trippy album. Björk shakes her listeners through complex patterns and atmospheric soundscapes.
A bitter Aftertaste
Medúlla is among the less successful albums by Björk which may be due to the experimental approach. Nevertheless, it is stunning release, full of emotions, introverted perspective, and sensual soundscapes. Medúlla may not be very accessible for majority of listeners, but it is indeed a great album. Unfortunately, there is always a bitter aftertaste with Björk Guðmundsdóttir and her arts. As a political activist, Björk has fallen for Pallywood- and Anti-Israel disinformation many years ago. And today, more than twenty years after the release of Medúlla, Björk has again spoken of an occupation of Gaza and the West Bank. Hopfeully, one day the artist will abandon this points of view.
