The Sound of Pessimism
Thibault (drums), Renaud (guitar and vocals) and Benjamin (bass and vocals) do neither beat about the bush nor do they mince words. Thus, they spread a loud an clear message on their self-titled debut album: this planet is a hellhole, and its residents are doomed. The world of late capitalism is falling apart, darkness has risen above the horizons, and wherever we look there is violence, destruction and pain. The trio from Grand Est have transferred their view on life, the universe and everything to music, and have compiled them in their first four-track longplayer.
Neverending Descend
The devices that Peine Kapital use to distribute their message are Doom Metal and Sludge in their most brutal forms. One may think of Electric Wizard or EyeHateGod when the band tells of the chasms of humankind and its deeds. Content-wise, the four tracks deal with depression, anxiety, violence, cruelty, and eclipses of sun and soul. One of the most beautiful features amidst this graphic and infernal soundscape are the lyrics which are uttered, screamed and screeched in French.
The crypt doors and coffin lids which Peine Kapital open reveal nothing seminally new. Both, content and artistic realisation sound very familiar, inside the genres especially. Nevertheless, Peine Kapital is a thrilling journey for those who dare to undertake it.
