Six very short reviews.

Zagtar – Primordial Mother

(Album | 19/11/2022 | Independent)
Half a decade after the release of „Deadly Curse„, Brisbane’s Thrash Metal war machine Zagtar is back with another album. „Primordial Mother“ is loud, doomy, merciless and brutal. Half an hour of brachial force that lacks highlights but is great exercise for your neck muscles.

Dying Sun – Black Coven

(Album | 01/12/2022 | Independent)
Sunshine Coast residents Dying Sun are here to bring darkness, oblivion and the end of the world as we know it. The band’s second longplayer is a shameless and powerfully rolling hommage to 1980s Doom Metal. The eschatologic sound is spiced up by the taste of burning rubber.

Ancient Remains – The Ancient Will Remain

(Single | 01/01/2023 | Independent)
There are many ways to say „Happny New Year“. Ancient Remains from Brisbane decided to do with via a blasting Thrash Metal anthem. The single ‚The Ancient Will Remain‘ is a great ode to the Metal scene, to all the musicians and fans supporting each other. It is also a neckbreaking moshpit banger.

Pocket Fox – Birch Leaves

(Album | 17/12/2022 | Independent)
Canberra’s octet Pocket Fox’s second longplayer „Birch Leaves“ came delayed due to 2020-ish reasons. Nevertheless, the listeners‘ patience was rewarded as the eight-track is a gorgeous collection of tales and stories that overcome genre boundaries with ease. For half an hour, high quality Folk, Rock and Prog entertainment is guaranteed.

Qeeran – RIGHT HERE

(Single | 06/01/2023 | Independent)
Melbourne’s Qeeran describes a tough journey on his latest single ‚RIGHT HERE‘. The cloudy R’n’B anthem deals with finding one’s own direction, finding to oneself, and making up one’s orientation. In the coda especially, the new found strength becomes hearable.
