The Battle Continues
On their debut album Afraid of Peace, Stuttgart’s Sh!t out of Luck loudly called for a fight against all sorts of oppression, such as capitalism, sexism, racism, you name it. Find a review of this longplayer on the old MangoWave page here. Not much time has passed since then and obviously the reasons fo fighting for a better future have not vanished.
In August 2023, the band that evolved from an Anti Folk duo have released their tape as a Punk Rock quartet. Here is the four-track EP Running to stand still.
Of Circles and Spirals
Depending on the point of view, one may see circles or spirals. From one perspective, it looks as if everything was stuck in an infinite loop, and from another perspective, a deep spiral leading towards endless nothingness can be recognised. Sh!t out of Luck have decorated their EP with an image of the Greek mythical creature of Sisyphus. The tale that poor man who has been damned to push a boulder up a hill day after day again is a great analogy to life. Watching the rock roll down the mountain shortly before he reaches summit again and again, Sisyphos starts over again. Again and again. Those who are fighting against intolerance or hatred can relate. Whenever one trouble spot seems to let itself calm down, two more conflicts pop up.
Rock’n’Revolt
Sh!t out of Luck concern this everlasting fight against the forces of darkness on the title track. Furthermore, they address the power of capitalists who are above the law (Too rich to jail), addiction and mental health (Moonshine) and the love for Rock’n’Roll (Pills). On four tracks, they play catchy Punk Rock and Rock’n’Roll with some traces of Ska and Rocksteady on the EP’s second half. The quartet combines activism, hope, and a sober view on the world with party-ready Punk’n’Roll and a recipe to get wasted to.
