If you find yourself in a situation where you are suddenly giving too many fucks, there’s a cure – a new single by DETHHAUS, an eclectic international band.
The metamorphosis DETHHAUS underwent is impressive yet logical. The band started as a two-piece surf worship project, recruiting the third participant not so long ago, which led to significant changes in their music.
Their vibe is a mix of Beach Boys tripping their balls, a little Devo with manic depressive disorder, and catatonic Beach House. Such a blend still displays the band’s tendency to create carefree, short shorts pop-alt rock, but with a twist. A psycho, bipolar twist.
„DETHHAUS 2“ sounds naive, light, and moving, upbeat midtempo rock reminiscent of Smashing Pumpkins and Pixies. The melodies in both songs are complex structures, relying heavily on using every tool in the book – the vocals, intrusive constant bass, and art college keyboards. These songs could fit in both kids‘ TV shows or your local garage gig.
DETHHAUS is well aware of their strong sides and is not afraid to focus on them, operating between fuzzy grunge and psychedelic beach bumming. This is not a big surprise after all, as surf rock couldn’t be more out of place in the current age – and that is a message on its own. So underneath the wrapper of a positive sunshine band hides one geeky outfit, aiming to explore the outsider corners of rock and roll.
